Village Electronics Recycling donates laptops, desktops, tablets and an arcade game console to the Foothills Medical Center’s special services building.
With the help of our friends at Video Game Trader https://www.videogametrader.ca/ , we were able to donate a working multicade gaming unit, which will be used by patients to play hundreds of classic arcade games such as Pac Man, Street Fighter, Frogger and many others using the arcade stick and button controls.
Also donated were many DVDs, Blu-ray discs, laptops with Blu-ray and DVD players, which can be used by patients to play that media in their own rooms so they do not have to share one TV, and tablets.
A desktop computer, LCD monitor and peripherals were donated to one patient, who is ready to be discharged from the medical center to her home, so that she can continue to use these essential resources outside of Foothills. She has unfortunately lost the use of her arms and now uses a special mouse, which can be controlled by her mouth, as well as speech recognition software, to focus on her studies online.
By speaking with some of the hospital staff, it has come to our attention that the new cancer center at Foothills Medical Center may not have TVs in the rooms and that patients will be expected to bring their own devices. Many patients are admitted to the hospital in emergency situations. This means that they may not have time to think about bringing their own laptop, smartphone or tablet. We have seen situations where some patients do not have friends or family who can visit them in the hospital.
Village Electronics Recycling wants to help people stay connected with their loved ones during times of crisis by donating free, refurbishing recycled equipment to the hospital so that it can be loaned to patients when needed. These devices are, first and foremost, an absolute lifeline for many patients to contact the outside world, in addition to being a valuable means of entertainment and information for someone who is confined to a hospital bed.
We hope to donate more equipment to Foothills, as well as to other charities and hospitals.
We sincerely thank all of our clients for making these donations possible!
